Opening a shop or retail establishment carries its own set of traditional Panchang considerations distinct from starting a business at large. A shop opening is a physical, visible event — the literal "opening of doors" — and the Panchang elements chosen should reflect stability, customer attraction, and steady income. The best Nakshatras for shop openings include Ashwini, Punarvasu, Pushya, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, and Shravana. Hasta ("the hand") is particularly significant for retail businesses, as it governs skillful activity and manual work — the hands-on nature of running a shop. Chitra, ruled by Vishwakarma (the divine architect), supports the physical establishment of commercial spaces. The Tithi should ideally be one that symbolizes growth and accumulation. Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, and Trayodashi are favorable. Many shopkeepers choose Panchami or Dashami specifically, as these tithis are associated with Lakshmi (prosperity) and Vijaya (victory) respectively.
