Beginning construction — whether laying a foundation, performing Bhoomi Pujan (ground-breaking ceremony), or starting renovation work — is a deeply significant event in Hindu tradition. The act of breaking ground is literally disturbing the earth, and the Panchang helps identify days when this disruption is cosmically supported. The Nakshatras for construction are specific: Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, and Dhanishta are considered favorable. Chitra holds special significance — it is ruled by Vishwakarma, the divine architect and builder of the universe. Construction begun under Chitra Nakshatra is believed to result in beautiful, lasting structures. Bhoomi Pujan specifically calls for a day in Shukla Paksha, ideally on Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Trayodashi, or Purnima. The ceremony involves offering prayers to Bhoomi Devi (Earth goddess), asking permission to build upon the land. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are the preferred weekdays. Interestingly, Tuesday (Mars) is favorable here — Mars energy supports physical labor, earth-moving, and construction activities. This is one of the few activities where Tuesday is considered positive. Saturday should be avoided.
